In recent years India has introduced a number of public administrative reforms to encourage greater efficiency, transparency, accountability, and corruption-free governance, and reduced scope for discretion.

Against this background of changing times, the paper describes the initiatives taken in India to redefine the role of government and the bureaucracy with a focus on good governance. The paper also discusses the reform measures undertaken in India to strengthen and enhance public administration adopting the e-governance route and empowering citizens.
