THE IMPACT OF SUBSIDIZING AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS ON GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS IN RUSSIA

2024. No. 4. P. 103–122 [issue contents]

Over the past decade, environmental stability has become a priority on the international agenda. To prevent climate change, it is necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including from agricultural production. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of subsidizing and price support for the production of individual agricultural products on increasing greenhouse gas emissions. For the first time, emissions from the production of certain agricultural products in the Russian Federation were analyzed using the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) methodology; the level of support and social value of products were calculated. The analysis revealed that the livestock sub-industries produces the largest portion of anthropogenic gases emissions, and they who receive the largest transfers through market prices support and direct budget payments. The paper explores state support measures to reduce agricultural greenhouse gas emissions.
